A couple of months ago I wrote this post about how I wanted to get stuck into more DIY around the house. I attended one of B&Q’s You Can Do It Workshops and was really impressed. For just £10 I got a 3 hour workshop teaching the basics of drilling walls and putting up shelves, mirrors and pictures. Better still you can go on these courses for free if you sign up to the B&Q Club.
So for the past few weeks I’ve been putting my new skills to the test hanging up pictures and canvases around the house. Last weekend I decided to bite the bullet and get a bit more creative with my drilling! Our hallway has been bugging me ever since we moved last year. There was nowhere to hang our coats so they were strewn across the banisters of the stairs. I bought a cheap and flimsy shoe rack but our shoes still seemed to end up in piles in the corner. Time to get tidying!
I bought two coat racks from a local shop. I decided to use the three-hook hanger for our coats and the two-hook hanger for Aoife’s coats and nursery bags. So far she loves having her own little space to hang up her belongings but I’m sure that novelty will wear off very soon! I also spray painted the shoe rack to make it a bit more colourful. I keep meaning to buy something a bit more attractive but there’s always something more important to spend my money on!
So there you go – it’s quite a minor job really but I’m proud that I was able to do it by myself. My next project is to hang a very heavy picture and also a mirror – eeeek, nervous!
